Even if you're not a kernel hacker, enough others are that this stuff just doesn't fly even in compiled binaries. While there are viruses and malware out there that can infect a Linux system, they tend to be exceptionally limited in scope, or the built-in tools can locate them easily. Malware doesn't really 'work' the same on Linux.
